Amazon.com Based on Thomas Harris's novel, this terrifying film by Jonathan Demme really only contains a couple of genuinely shocking moments (one involving an autopsy, the other a prison break). The rest of the film is a splatter-free visual and psychological descent into the hell of madness, redeemed astonishingly by an unlikely connection between a monster and a haunted young woman. Anthony Hopkins is extraordinary as the cannibalistic psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter, virtually entombed in a subterranean prison for the criminally insane. At the behest of the FBI, agent-in-training Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) approaches Lecter, requesting his insights into the identity and methods of a serial killer named Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). In exchange, Lecter demands the right to penetrate Starling's most painful memories, creating a bizarre but palpable intimacy that liberates them both under separate but equally horrific circumstances. Demme, a filmmaker with a uniquely populist vision (Melvin and Howard, Something Wild), also spent his early years making pulp for Roger Corman (Caged Heat), and he hasn't forgotten the significance of tone, atmosphere, and the unsettling nature of a crudely effective close-up. Much of the film, in fact, consists of actors staring straight into the camera (usually from Clarice's point of view), making every bridge between one set of eyes to another seem terribly dangerous. --Tom Keogh

Timeless Movie; Brilliant Acting August 28, 2010 Denise McMillan I think "Silence of the Lambs" may very well be the best movie I've ever seen. It is marked the best in my mind for universally excellent acting (particularly Foster, Hopkins, and Ted Levine), a racing, suspenseful plot, thrilling elements of character you will have never seen coming, and an on-the-edge-of your seat feeling from the moment you first meet Dr. Hannibal Lecter to the moment the credits begin to roll. I love being drawn into movies in such a way that real life seems far far away. This is one of those movies.
Clarice Starling is a young, strong-willed FBI student assigned to interview the intriguing and frightening Hannibal Lecter. Starling finds herself involved in hunting down Buffalo Bill (a killer nicknamed as such for the way he "skins his humps") with Lecter's help. The mind games and conversations that go on between Starling and Lecter are absolutely my favorite parts of this movie. So many times I thought I'd had a grip on the plot only to find myself totally thrown again and again.
"Silence of the Lambs" is not only a truly wonderful movie in general, but in the subcategory of horror/suspense/thriller movies, it is perfect. Suspense, a slight bit of gore to keep your heart pounding, remarkable and admirable characters, and just the right amount of disturbing chills placed tastefully throughout the whole thing combine to become my recipe for the ideal horror movie. Even if horror movies are not to your taste, give "Silence of the Lambs" a fair try - you will be impressed.

REALLY GOOD June 14, 2010 babbie (iowa, usa) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
A classic. For all the parents out there, no nudity except for a naked "man" with a vagina. Not very graphic, couldn't tell what it was, if he/she wasn't there.
Thriller May 20, 2010 Joseph Adams (Superior, WI USA) Won 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. A psychopath kills women across the midwest. The FBI sends someone to interview a prisoner to provide clues. Hannibal Lector is a cannibal who agrees to helponly if she'll feed is desires on her own life. Stars Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. Followed by a sequel named Hannibal. I thought it was a worthwhile film to see at least once.
