I grew up in the 50s, in the era of black and white television. Every Sunday during the fall my father and I would watch the Detroit Lions on tv. We were blessed to be able to see Bobby Layne and the Detroit Lions win three championships during those years. They came close on two other occasions. They were, in short, the best at that time. Reading about Coach Buddy Parker's winning football strategy was a hoot! The book took me back to an earlier time, a time when men played the game for the love of the sport, to a time without tv commercials. It is a great read for those of us who remember the really "good old days."
